Leaders across the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), including several Union Ministers and Chief Ministers, hailed the nomination of Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the alliance’s Vice-Presidential candidate, praising his long record of public service and administrative experience.

Union Minister Manohar Lal called the announcement a fitting recognition of Radhakrishnan’s integrity and commitment to constitutional values. “His wisdom and vast experience will enrich Rajya Sabha’s deliberations and uphold the dignity of the Upper House,” he wrote on X, while thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP Parliamentary Board for the decision.

Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal expressed confidence that Radhakrishnan’s “dedication, experience and diligent leadership” would strengthen India’s democracy. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted his “profound administrative experience and commitment to uplifting the deprived sections of society,” adding that his tenure would further enhance parliamentary dignity.

Union MoS Sanjay Seth called the nomination a matter of pride for Jharkhand, where Radhakrishnan had earlier served as Governor. “Prime Minister Modi has given this honour to 3.5 crore people of Jharkhand,” he said. Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar also described it as a “good step.”

Manipur CM N. Biren Singh hailed his “exemplary service as a Parliamentarian and Governor across multiple states,” while JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha said his nomination reflected the NDA’s commitment to inclusive development and social justice. Other BJP leaders, including SP Singh Baghel, Jagdambika Pal, and Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, also extended congratulations.

The NDA formally announced Radhakrishnan’s candidature on Sunday after a BJP Parliamentary Board meeting chaired by party president JP Nadda. The Vice Presidential election will take place on September 9.

A veteran of over four decades in politics, the 67-year-old leader began his journey with the Jan Sangh and the RSS before rising through the BJP ranks. Twice elected MP from Coimbatore, he later served as Tamil Nadu BJP president, Chairman of the Coir Board—where he oversaw record export growth—and as Governor of Jharkhand, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Puducherry.

Widely regarded for his grassroots connect and clean image, Radhakrishnan is seen as bringing both political and administrative depth to the Vice Presidential role.
